Day 6: Your most favorite female character.

I believe anyone who has ever followed me even if they’ve unfollowed me and even those who have never followed me know the answer to this.

Here’s the thing: Gandalf is my favorite character from The Lord of the Rings, but Galadriel is my favorite character out of all of Tolkien’s works. The little we see of her in The Lord of the Rings is the culmination of long years of learning and waiting. You see, she was already wise in her youth, and she was wiser than most beings in Middle Earth at the time, and she was endlessly watching for the enemy and at the same time for a chance to, in a way, redeem herself from the mistakes of her past.

Then the One Ring comes along. After centuries of waiting and desiring this chance she comes across a golden opportunity to become what she knew she could be since her youth. Instead, in what I attribute to the wisdom she developed in those long years of watching and waiting, she chose to be just Galadriel. Instead of giving in to the temptation of power (what put her in that situation in the first place, really) she chose to be Galadriel, not Galadriel the Almighty, ruler of Middle Earth. She chose to be JUST Galadriel, to diminish in power instead of grow. Then she achieved greatness and received the “forgiveness” she needed from herself.

Also she gave Gimli three hairs from her golden head, a gift she refused to one of her own people but gladly gave to a dwarf because she saw what was in his heart. —And because Fëanor was a dick even before he was a dick and it is my headcanon that when he asked her for one hair she just went all Cher from Clueless on him and said “Ew. AS IF!”

I’M SORRY I HAVE ENDLESS GALADRIEL FEELS I DON’T KNOW HOW TO PUT THEM IN WORDS PROPERLY AND THERE’S PROBABLY A THOUSAND MISTAKES IN THAT. I JUST KNOW I LOVE HER AND I FEEL FOR HER AND I CRY BECAUSE EVERYTHING SHE DOES HAS A MEANING LET ME DIE.
